Welcome to the Dietitian Boss Podcast. I'm Libby Rothschild, creator of Dietitian Boss. After almost four years of sitting in my dimly lit windowless clinical office, I had enough. I wanted to feel like my work mattered, so I did something about it. I created a program that empowers dietitians and nutritionists to create their own private practice from scratch following my proprietary.
Before I did this, I had a private practice of my own while working a full-time job, and I learned a lot about building relationships, marketing and sales, and I'm so excited to be able to share my proprietary framework with you. I wanna share with you today five tips of how you can market without using social media as a Dietitian.
Now, I know you might be thinking what I always talk about social media. And where that's true. I wanna make my [00:01:00] brand more and more accessible. And I understand that some of you might not be ready yet to start social media with a strategy. And if that's the case, I'll give you some other tactics that you can get started with so that you don't have to rely on social media if you're looking to reach clients in your business.
But you don't wanna spend that time on social media quite yet when today's episode is gonna help you. First, let's talk about why you might wanna market your business without social media at this exact time. Social media is a powerful tool for teaching potential clients and promoting your business, but it's not the only way.
And some dietitians do prefer to avoid or limit social media for personal reasons, and they might not wanna spend time on the app because the app can. It can take up a lot of time and energy and social media can also be addicting for some people. And social media can trigger some of your emotions and you might not be in a place right now or you [00:02:00] wanna handle that.
And I totally understand and if that resonates with you and you're just not quite ready to use social media as a tool. And I wanna share with you five options of what you can do to get. Sooner right before you feel ready. So I'm gonna share five effective marketing strategies. First, I wanna share that today's episode is sponsored by practice better.
So if you are a registered Dietitian looking to manage your private practice with ease, I want you to go ahead and get started with practice better. Now they have a free plan that you can start for 14 days and as an exclusive offer as our listeners, you can get 20% off for your first four months on a paid plan when you use our promo code, DietitianBoss20, I wanna share with you the first strategy of the five, and that would be to focus on networking.
That can mean that you're building relationships, so attending industry. Joining professional [00:03:00] organizations in your neighborhood and reaching out to other Dietitians and healthcare professionals. Maybe you've got a local community of Dietitians or healthcare professionals that you wanna tap into and start having conversations with people in a similar space.
How relationships with other professionals in your field can help you get referrals, and it's a great way to get your name out there and build your confidence. The second strategy would be to build a. And a website would be your online hub. And it's where potential clients are gonna go to learn more about your services and your credentials.
And my hesitancy with a website is it'll, it's not free. So it does take time and energy to build a site. And what I suggest is keeping your website as simple as possible until. You're clear with the planning phase of business, meaning you do know who you're serving and how you're helping them, and it can be really challenging if you're a Dietitian looking to launch your business and you're not sure exactly how to make your website work.[00:04:00]
I know when I got mine off the ground, I wasn't clear enough and it caused a lot of anxiety and time cuz I just wasn't really ready yet to have a. and I wish I would've made it as simple as possible so that I could have focused on more important stuff like building more relationships. That being said, if you do wanna build a website, I would keep it simple with a limited amount of pages or just one page website.
Or you can even use a landing page, which is free through through an email service provider until you're more clear with what you wanna say on your website. Of course, you can keep it simple and just have your name and your information, but for the website to work, you're gonna need a little bit more.
about who you serve as a Dietitian. Writing a private practice requires technology. If you wanna scale and deliver a standardized experience, you will need to start using software with your private practice. And I want you to have more time to focus on the parts of your practice that feel you like.
Helping more [00:05:00] people and spending less time on administration work. And that's why I recommend Practice Better to my clients. Inside of our Academy membership and coaching programs, Practice Better is a complete practice management software for nutrition professionals like you who wanna start and scale their private practice without the burnout.
Practice Better helps automate your bookings, charting and invoicing, but it's way more than. Creating protocols and treatment plans and tracking your client's progress is easier than ever. So your clients can be engaged in every step of their plan, and you can provide a high level of care without burning out.
Practice better also integrates with your favorite software. So that your client data and recommendations sync securely and seamlessly. You can import data and results easily from lab orders, fitness trackers, and even integrate practice better with your email marketing and your marketing funnels and with their programs feature, which is my personal favorite.
[00:06:00] You have everything you need to build and run an automated group, program, or me. So that you can earn passive income, and it's pretty streamlined in one software. If you're a registered Dietitian looking to manage your practice with ease, you can get started with any practice better. Plan for free for 14 days as an exclusive offer For our listeners here at Dietitian Boss, you can get 20% off your first four months on any paid plan when you use the promo code.
DietitianBoss20 at the check. It's time to say goodbye to a patchwork of software and hello to an organized efficient practice. Now, the other tactic, a third tip, would be to offer workshops and classes. Now, educational workshops and classes can be. offered in your local community if you don't wanna do 'em online.
And there's a lot of opportunities to teach healthy eating workshops, cooking workshops, intuitive eating workshops and events like this can be a great way to reach potential [00:07:00] clients and also demonstrate your expertise. It's a total confidence. Booster and it provides value to your community. And maybe you've already done this during your dietetic internship or maybe through some of your work at your nine to five job now starting workshops and classes is how I got started.
I taught workshops and classes at my clinical job, and then I was referred outside of my clinical job and I started working with the union in New York City and I started getting a lot of opportu. outside of my hospital to do more talks, and it was a really cool way for me to start building my consulting practice.
And I did that without social media before I started using social media. So if that feels good to you, you can pursue some classes and workshops. You can also collaborate with other businesses. Partnering with local businesses like gyms or grocery stores is a pretty popular way for Dietitians to start building their clientele.
And it can also, I improve your confidence because you start working with other people and learning a little bit how they work. Kind of asking them questions about their business and their [00:08:00] strategies. , and it can be a really good way for you to start expanding your audience, right? Because if you're working or you're, you're collaborating with someone else, you can bring two audiences together.
So that might be, again, a gym, grocery store, could even be another practitioner. Maybe you're we're talking a naturopath, or maybe there's some other type of therapist or some similar healthcare practitioner who would be willing to work. . And then finally the last tip would be word of mouth, which is actually the most popular way that most businesses start.
And so if you encourage any of your current clients, if you do have any existing clients to spread the word about your services, if they enjoyed working with you, or just people you know, think about the five, 10 people you already know and you can offer them an incentive, like a discount, or a future service for the referral.
You can even offer them a phone call and say, Hey, I'd love to answer any of your questions that you have, if you wouldn't mind telling people about my services. Right? And word of mouth is powerful because it starts with who [00:09:00] you know, and you'd be surprised that the people you know in your circle or your existing clients, if you have them, are actually your best advocate.
So there you have it. I've listed five marketing strategies outside of social media that you can use to start building your business. And as a story, I built my business, my consulting business as a Dietitian, while working a nine to five by doing the workshops and teaching. So I can speak from firsthand that this worked for me.
I made thousands and thousands of dollars in this route before you even touched social media. So it's absolutely possible for you to improve your skills and. By tapping into an opportunity before you might even consider social media. Now, you know, we don't have to talk about when you're gonna start social media, it's just you might decide you wanna start something first that doesn't include social media.
So I hope today's episode was helpful and I look forward to hearing what your thoughts are. So tag me on Instagram and Dietitian boss with your thoughts about today and which particular tactic stood.
