Digital marketing for dietitians is important. You might be wondering what exactly does digital marketing.
Digital marketing is the use of digital channels such as search engines, social media, email, and websites to [00:01:00] promote a product or service that you sell. Maybe it's your consult or group programming, or maybe it's even an online course, and for Dietitians specifically, digital marketing can help you build your.
Attract new clients and engage with your existing clients, which is a great way to continue to build rapport. Traditional marketing, on the other hand, when compared with digital marketing, Represents what we're all familiar with. That means referrals, word of mouth, billboards, and flyers. So those are probably the types of marketing that you see your practitioners using because traditional marketing has been around for a long time.
Digital marketing is still a new concept for. Many dietitians and many people, it's not as widely adopted, and there's a huge opportunity for us dietitians to practice the art and science of digital marketing, which is a big part of what I teach here at [00:02:00] Dietitian Boss. Now, digital marketing is actually more effective than traditional marketing.
Digital marketing has revolutionized the way that business can reach and engage with their target audience, meaning who you intend to serve. People, right? Maybe you intend to serve people with chronic disease or lifecycle nutrition or sports performance. And if you can tap into digital marketing, you can actually reach people in a more effective way.
And unlike traditional marketing, right, like, you know, like I mentioned Billboard ads and referrals, digital marketing has a more targeted and cost effective approach to help you reach more people. And I wanna share with you, how that works so you can reach a wider audience. Digital marketing allows dietitians to reach a much wider audience compared with traditional marketing because you can tap into more people online, right?
Because if you're practicing traditional [00:03:00] marketing like ref, like word of mouth and referral, there's only so many people that can learn about your services. If your network isn't as large or your reach isn't as expansive. Email marketing or using something on the internet, like online marketing, including social media or search engine optimization.
And by utilizing various online channels, social media, search engine, email, marketing websites, et cetera, bus podcasting businesses like yours can reach the people that you help wherever they live in the world at any time. And that means that the actual meaning and impact of a Dietitian is expon. , it's huge, but that's only if we learn how to use the tool of digital marketing, right?
The concept of what it means and use the tools out there, like the tools would be social media, websites, et cetera. and there's a targeted approach when it comes to digital marketing. Digital marketing provides a more targeted [00:04:00] approach to help you reach those potential customers that you really wanna serve.
Like, for example, social media platforms like Facebook and LinkedIn and Instagram offer targeted options based on wealth. Instagram does not offer targeted based on demographics, but Facebook and LinkedIn do. They offer targeted options based on demographics and interests and behaviors, and that can be a helpful way for you to really reach people.
And there's a whole world of organic, which means you're not paying, or there's paid ads, which is something that I didn't grow my business from paid ads, but it can help if you're already getting clients and you want to accelerate that path. . You know, this helps businesses reach their desired audience by tapping into these platforms because you have a higher level of precision really compared with traditional marketing.
So think about it. If you can target demographics on Facebook and and LinkedIn, you can't target demographics in person as well, [00:05:00] then you have a much greater chance of serving the greater good by tapping into digital marketing. I don't know if that's new information for you, but once I really learned about digital marketing and how I could triple 10 X my efforts that I had made in person, my life was changed.
When I made my first online course, when I was still working as a clinical Dietitian, I couldn't believe how fast I sold the course. and I couldn't believe how many people I helped because my course was targeted. I was helping Dietitians grow their social media following so that they can get clients, and it was a really cool way for me to use my skills in a way that I hadn't done before.
I was always so used to these workshops and in person and consults, and I hadn't even learned about the world of digital. And once I went digital, my life changed. I, I mean, it's been amazing and I've loved helping Dietitians use digital marketing effectively as. . Now, it's also cost effective. You might not realize that, but digital marketing is more cost effective [00:06:00] than the traditional marketing methods I had mentioned, such as the referrals and word of mouth.
For example, a social media ad campaign. If you are paying for ads, you know, can, can be a, an option for you if you do wanna do paid ads. But if you think about that ad cost, it's a fraction of the cost of traditional TV and print ad campaigns. So you can invest money in ads on online Facebook and Instagram, and it's a fraction of the cost of what it would cost for a TV ad over print, which is what is an old fashioned.
Traditional marketing method, and additionally, digital marketing allows businesses to track your spending so you can measure the return on your investment better, so you know what's actually working by looking at your metrics and you can't quite do that when traditional marketing you. You can jot down some notes in terms of people you might have met and impact you've been able to make, but it's not gonna be as accurate or [00:07:00] precise as looking at your analytics from using online marketing.
and that can really help you with your budget, right? Because if you're looking at growing your. And it's your time and your money. Whether you're doing paid ads and you're spending money, or it's time and you're looking at your social media analytics, or you're looking at your email marketing analytics, or you're looking at your website analytics, that data is gonna help you drive future behavior around what you can do with your business.
For example, I look at my YouTube analytics. And I know my videos are a little too long. My watch time is shorter than my videos right now, so that means I need to make a shorter video so that I can increase watch time and make a better channel, right? And adjust my strategy. And that actually means I was working too hard. My videos are too long. And so now I know, okay, well I'm gonna try to go from a 15 minute video to a 10 minute, and then I'm actually gonna see if I can [00:08:00] shave it down a little bit more because I need to make sure I get that watch time up higher.
And that's an indication that the audience, you, if you're watching me or enjoying my work now there's measurable. As I had, you know, mentioned with looking at your analytics. So with traditional marketing methods, it can be difficult to measure the effectiveness, right? But with digital marketing, you have a, a wealth of data and analytics.

Now there's also engagement. So digital marketing provides businesses like yours with an opportunity to engage with your target [00:11:00] market in a more meaningful way. Social media platforms, as you might know, they can allow for you to interact. And even if people aren't commenting on your posts a lot, you know they're sending you dms and they're chatting with you and engaging with you, hearting, you know, giving your story a heart.
And you can always give some love to other people too. People that you genuinely. And that level of engagement increases brand loyalty and customer satisfaction. And that's a really cool way that you can use digital marketing. I know I always talk about using Instagram and social media to make sales, but you can also, I mean, in order to make sales, you gotta build relationships.
So that's where the engagement comes in. And then there's faster results. So digital marketing campaigns can deliver results faster than traditional marketing methods. So for example, a social media. Can be launched in hours where traditional marketing campaigns, like let's say a TV or ad campaign, can take months.
So digital marketing has really sped things up and created [00:12:00] so many opportunities for Dietitians like us to be seen and heard. And then finally, there's flexibility, which is my favorite. Digital marketing allows, you know, businesses like us to have a flexible opportunity cuz we can test things, right? And that's why it's okay if you don't know your niche.
It's okay if you're not sure what to sell. You can test things to learn what might work best, and it's just about adopting an attitude of willingness to try something and then learn when to try something else. So let's say social media post. or you know, your social media efforts aren't quite getting you the traction that you want.
You can always make an adjustment and then you can look at your metrics and adjust your strategy and figure out how to improve. And that level of flexibility, it's just not possible with traditional marketing methods. And because of the speed of digital marketing, it's a lot easier to be agile than it, than it is when it comes to traditional marketing methods.
So, you know, as in a conclusion from today's episode, digital marketing is more cost effective and e. [00:13:00] As a method for you to do business, to reach people and engage with their target audience compared to traditional marketing methods and using various online channels, not all at the same time, but
Building with time, using a marketing channel online and leveraging analytics, like looking at your insights on Instagram.
