So at this point, you're probably wondering how you can monetize your expertise as a dietitian online. On today's episode, I'm going to break that down. As a dietitian, you know, that you have unique knowledge and expertise around food and nutrition, and you can help people achieve the nutrition outcomes of their dreams. And in today's digital world, you have more opportunities than ever before to monetize that expertise online. So let's dive into some strategies for turning your knowledge into revenue, right?
Because I know that you want to become an online dietitian. I know you want to become your own boss. And the question is, well, what does that look like? So first you can create digital products like eBooks, which include guides courses. Meal plans and various other online digital products that offer value to your target audience. And that's going to share your expertise and these products can be sold on your own website or on other popular platforms. You can also use third-party platforms like teachable Thinkific. You can even use Gumroad, which is a software tool it's free, where you can list your digital product and use the link to have people purchase.
You can also go on. Etsy or Amazon and sell from those platforms. There are many different options. You do not have to have a website yourself. If you first want to get started with selling digital products. This is a great way for any dietitian or dietetic student to start packaging their expertise. And in my membership of the academy, I've actually licensed a couple of different eBooks with different topics, one focusing on a mindful eating and self-love and the other focusing on macronutrients and some recipes.
So these two different topics, depending on your area of expertise and what you gravitate towards can be used as eBooks for you to sell. So you already have them pre-made when you joined the. The academy, you can start using those eBooks and just add your name to the bottom. Right? It's already been licensed to me to license it to you.
And you can start selling that to make a profit and hooking that up with a third-party platform like teachable or practice better, or you can use something like Gumroad. So there's a lot of options where you don't necessarily need to link up with your website so you can use low tech options. To start selling something immediately. And I walk you through with tech tutorials on how to do that. In my membership.
If, if you would like to do it on your own, you can go on Canva and you can start creating an ebook as well. You just going to have to start packaging the content together and making sure you don't overthink it and creating something that people want to share your expertise. And a lot of you get tripped up on that perfectionism, which is why I decided to do it for you and take the learning curve out of creating that content.
So you at least have your first ebook that you can sell and that you have available. So once you start talking to folks about the intuition knowledge and your expertise that you've packaged up, you can start selling something immediately as you're figuring. Bring out your online programming or your consultative skills, or even if you don't want to do any counseling or coaching.
Or online programs you can just get started. No matter if you are pregnant, delivering, working a clinical job, traveling or still in school, it's very accessible for you to start selling these digital guides and they are popular. Now for the, the second thing I want to mention is that you can offer one-on-one or consult, consult, consultative services.
Either through phone or through video calls, you can do it in person. I'm a fan of the online dietitian. So I'm a big fan of doing it through phone or video and doing it through an EMR, like practice better would be a HIPAA compliant way for you to deliver the service. And that can be a great way for you to provide personalized guidance to clients and create a steady stream of income. Now, the beauty of one-on-one.
Is that you can learn a lot about your counseling skills, right? So you can start practicing motivational interviewing, which is behavior change modification. You can also start improving your communication skills and improving your confidence, right? Because you're working with people one-on-one. Now the other beauty of offering one-on-one or consultative services is that you can scale this up or down. So if you don't want to see more than a few people a month, that's okay. You can see as little as one person a week, or as much as, you know, 10 or 20 people per week. Now, if you start seeing high volume, you might want to shift to a group program so that you can start leveraging your time.
But we'll talk about that another day. The main point is that you, if you see people one-on-one, you do not have to see a high volume. And that's a great way for you to have multiple income streams as options. Let's say you've got an ebook that I mentioned earlier that you're using from us so that you don't even have to think about how to make it. You can just plug and play. And then you're also offering consults to folks that might be interested in learning more about nutrition.
And you do not have to do that with insurance. You can do cash pay, but if you do choose to do insurance, there is a whole process in order to apply for insurance and, and set that up. And we can talk about that a different day, but for purposes of getting started, And selling something that's accessible that you have control over that would be offering a cash pay, consultative service and offering one-off sessions or a bundle. And then as you're able to build your confidence, you can start packaging those services into a, an.
A program and we can talk about what that looks like in a future episode. With getting clear on the deliverables that you've outlined so that you can serve people and sell them into a higher priced program. Thirdly, you can monetize your knowledge by creating, sponsored content, right? Like blog posts, social media posts, or brands that align with your values and niche. We've got a lot of clients that get brand deals and work with sponsorships, so they might get sponsored. They get paid on social media to promote another brand.
Or they they have various ways of doing affiliate marketing as well, which has another option. So you can receive monies or commission if you're promoting a brand that you believe in. And this can be a win-win situation because you can monetize your content that you're already creating as a content creator and provide value to your audience through sponsored partnerships.
Now we do this. We are sponsored by practice better. And I believe in that brand, I, I, you know, recommend it, use practice better. I've dealt with them extensively for the last four years. I've had their co-founder on our podcast. Like three years ago. So I've been in a, you know, I've been in conversation with them. I've done webinars with them, I believe in their product. And what I love about that nutrition software is it's made for nutritionists, right? For nutrition professionals, dietitians and nutritionists, versus some of the other EMR that are, let's say more for therapists are more broad for healthcare practitioners.
But what I love about practice better is that it is made specifically. Niched for the nutrition professional. And, you know, I love that. And I love that they're also focused on programs, so they make it easy for you to create programs so that you can leverage your income. And then obviously, Have a complaint and you keep things organized and you can even grow. If you want to do a group practice, you can add on other practitioners. So there's a lot of benefits from using that software to manage and automate your business.
Finally, you can create a membership site, right? Or a subscription service that provides ongoing value for your clients. And this conclude, this can include access to exclusive content that you create, or that you have somebody else create that you only release through your membership. You can even offer coaching sessions to your members and community support.
Maybe you're offering a private community that could be like a private Facebook group or a private forum on an online channel. So those are some strategies, right? The dietitians use to monetize their expertise online. Maybe they use a couple of them or maybe use all of them. I want you to remember that the key here is to provide value for your target audience and find ways to leverage your unique knowledge and your skills. And you might want to start out with just one thing. And then with time you can grow to other income streams.
So when I first started. I was an affiliate for a course. And then I co created a course on Instagram. And then, well, actually I started coaching in between that. So I was an affiliate for a course about food photography. And then I started coaching dietitians on how to make money online. And then I ended up co-creating a course on Instagram and then I grew my coaching and then I created a.
I took my coaching from private coaching, where my rates started very low to then I increased my rate because the demand grew higher. And then I created group programming and then I created mastermind cohorts. And then after let's say four years of that, I created a membership. And so I can share with you firsthand that creating a membership service.
Does allow us as a hero dietitian boss to provide ongoing value to our clients. So we have exclusive content. I'm able to give my signature framework a 10 module framework. To start and grow your online business. That's released to our clients when they join the membership. And they also have live training.
I gave C use that was approved this past year for the membership and then there's community support during business day. So it's a really great opportunity to have an accessible, low cost community for dietitians to become their own boss while they are working clinical stolen school, delivering or growing a family, traveling, whatever other obligation you have.
I want to make growing your business accessible because that's how I started. I started growing my business while I was working in clinical job. I was doing. Nutrition consulting on the side and I needed some help on how to get to that next step. And I've been able to provide a resource I wish I had, and I would like all dietitians to have the option, to build additional revenue streams so that you can become your own boss and decide what that means to you and help more people, right.
Become financially independent and live the life that you want without having to ask permission to take holidays off without having to ask permission to work a flexible schedule, which I believe should be our right to. You have that flexibility. And so you have to create your own dream job. By leveraging these income opportunities.
So I hope this was helpful for you today.
