[00:00:37] Libby: Hi there and welcome to the dietitian boss [00:00:40] podcast. I'm Libby Rothschild. And today we're talking about a powerful tool that can transform your business. Instagram content that converts. Here's the deal. If you've ever poured hours into creating the perfect post only to get a few handful of likes and zero clients, you're not alone, but imagine if your posts could consistently grab [00:01:00] attention, build trust.
[00:01:01] Libby: And drive action in the next 20 minutes. I'm going to teach you how to do just that. Whether your goal is to book more discovery calls or your email list, or sell out your programs plus stay tuned because I'll be sharing how our monthly membership can help you fast track your social media success [00:01:20] with ready to use templates and proven strategies.
[00:01:23] Libby: So let's jump in. Now, you might be wondering, why does Instagram work for dietitians?
[00:01:28] Libby: Visual storytelling is a top reason. So, nutrition is a lot about visuals. So, think colorful food photos, portion examples, or transformational stories. A lot of [00:01:40] people learn with visuals and Instagram is perfectly designed to showcase this massive reach and niches with over a billion active users, Instagram offers endless opportunities to connect with your ideal clients, whether you focus on diabetes management, nutrition or intuitive eating hashtags and search features [00:02:00] help you find your people and direct engagement. So features like stories, reels and direct messages allow you to interact personally with followers, building trust and moving them towards becoming clients, which is what we want. So I want you to think about optimizing your bio today. So make it clear who you help. How you [00:02:20] help them and what they should do next.
[00:02:23] Libby: So, for example, you can say renal dietitian helping CKD patients eat well without stress. DM renal for free grocery list. Right, so that is a good example of optimizing your bio. I want you to take a moment and think, is your bio optimized? And what can you do based on [00:02:40] this recommendation to change it today?
[00:02:41] Libby: Now that you know why Instagram is so powerful, let's break down how to create posts that actually convert. Creating content that converts starts with understanding what types of posts work best. So here are some key types or educational posts. So that's bite sized tips or quick wins. For example, [00:03:00] 3 hidden sources of sugar or how you build a balanced plate.
[00:03:03] Libby: Where those examples are a bit basic, they do establish your expertise and give followers a reason to keep coming back. So those are good examples of getting started with educational posts. As you become more advanced, you can create better hooks for your bite sized educational [00:03:20] content, such as 3 mistakes that you didn't know.
[00:03:22] Libby: or three sneaky ways that you're already consuming hidden sugar. You have to think of how you can take examples of educational content and make it more catchy. So instead of how to build a balanced plate, you could say three reasons why your plate isn't balanced again, you can workshop these ideas.
[00:03:39] Libby: This is part of what we [00:03:40] help you with inside of our membership. But you want to be creating educational posts that have really good headlines that will engage People to really read your content. The next tip includes inspirational stories. So share client success stories or your own journey, and you can start with your own journey.
[00:03:57] Libby: For instance, meet Sarah [00:04:00] who stabilized her blood sugar in three weeks by following these three steps, right? That's a very actionable, relatable story. So those types of stories can inspire action and show, grow results. Now, quick tip here, if you already have a podcast or another form of outreach for your community, you can pull some of [00:04:20] your interviews or information or tips or tricks that you're already teaching on those other formats on to your inspirational stories on Instagram.
[00:04:29] Libby: So that's. An episode for another day where we're going to talk more about repurposing, but I wanted to give you a pro tip. Now, you could also do call to action posts. This is something I see a lot of new dietitians [00:04:40] skip. You want to be clear about the next step. For example, DM me, plan for a free guide or comment below if you're struggling with meal prep, and this is going to invite people to engage with you and then you can engage back. You can grow your clientele and even the amount of leads that you're attracting just by inviting them to [00:05:00] engage in your direct message. I want you to use scroll stopping headlines to grab attention, right?
[00:05:04] Libby: We talked about how to create those, but you might not start with scroll stopping headlines. You might start with this, any headline and consistency. So for example, snack smarter, three low sodium treats you'll love. It's a good way to get started and then keep your captions concise, short and [00:05:20] impactful is going to win the day and it's more sustainable for you.
[00:05:23] Libby: So, speaking of captions, let's talk about how to craft irresistible ones that drive engagement and action. So, captions are where you deepen connections and drive action. And here's a quick formula. You can start with a strong hook. So your 1st line should grab attention, like struggling to stop sugar cravings.
[00:05:39] Libby: Read [00:05:40] this. And then deliver some value in the middle of the caption. For example, offer a quick tip, insider solution to a common problem that your audience faces. And then you want to end with a clear call to action. For example, save this post, DM me for details or you know, DM us plan to get a free meal plan.
[00:05:59] Libby: [00:06:00] So an actionable tip here would be to follow the 3E formula, educate, provide valuable tips or facts, engage, ask a question, like what's your biggest meal prep challenge, and encourage, include a direct call to action. Now that we've gone over a simple caption framework, Let's focus on visuals, because even the [00:06:20] best captions won't matter if your post doesn't catch someone's eye.
[00:06:24] Libby: So designing scroll stopping visuals is an art and a science. So your visuals are the first thing people notice, and they have to pop, so here's how. Bold, clean designs. You can use simple layouts, vibrant colors. Or text overlays to make your [00:06:40] post stand out in a crowded feed. Now on the fan, we teach you how to leverage tools like Canva.
[00:06:45] Libby: We have a lot of trainings inside the library because Canva makes it easy to create professional looking graphics with pre made templates that keep your branding consistent. You want to maintain cohesive branding, so sticking to a cohesive color palette, font and [00:07:00] style to your feed becomes recognizable for some of you.
[00:07:03] Libby: This is easier than others. We have changed our branding over the years. We do our best to be consistent, but we have made some modifications over the years. So consistency is the best thing you can do. And of course, changes do happen. You don't need any fancy equipment. A well lit food photo or photo of yourself [00:07:20] with bold text overlay can work wonders now.
[00:07:22] Libby: Remember the more photos of you, the better. So people can begin to know, like, and trust you. So let's wrap up by looking at common mistakes to avoid. So you can maximize your Instagram efforts. Now, in avoiding mistakes, inconsistency is absolutely the biggest mistake. So you're making posts sporadically, and it [00:07:40] might confuse your audience.
[00:07:41] Libby: So you want to aim for at least two to three posts per week to stay top of mind. Another big mistake includes no clear strategy. So every post should have a purpose, either to educate, inspire or drive action, and you can rotate between different types of posts, but you do want to have a purpose with what you're [00:08:00] posting and that consistency combined with purpose will help build your brand authority.
[00:08:05] Libby: You don't want to ignore analytics. Tracking top performing posts can help you identify what resonates with your audience and replicate that success. Remember, not every post is going to be a slam dunk, and that's normal. We want to focus on the minority of our [00:08:20] posts that have done really well and try to replicate elements of what's worked well so that we can continue to grow our audience, so it might be that there's a theme. Maybe people really enjoy recipes that you are showing quick tips or they're enjoying vegan recipes or they're enjoying some aspect of your content that you're not aware of. So, by [00:08:40] process of elimination and testing and consistently putting content out there, you'll learn how to refine your strategy and that can only be done by looking at your analytics.
[00:08:48] Libby: So an actionable step here would be to schedule time each month to review your analytics. Some of our clients do this weekly and biweekly, but at least once a month, using insights to refine your [00:09:00] content strategy is what will help you grow your account and double down on what's working. Now, this might not be obvious right away, and that's why it might take a little bit of time and your brain might not be used to thinking in this way, but if you're consistent.
[00:09:13] Libby: You will see some results. So let's recap what we've covered and outline your next steps. We talked about the power of [00:09:20] Instagram through visual storytelling, massive reach, and direct engagement. Now we talked about posts that convert educational, inspirational, and call to action driven posts.
[00:09:30] Libby: We talked about captions that hook your audience, providing value, and that can end with a clear call to action. Visuals, keep them bold, clean, and on [00:09:40] brand as much as possible. And avoiding pitfalls, like staying consistent, strategic, and data driven.
